The Department of Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Government of Tamil Nadu, in proud collaboration with Nazareth Educational Institutions, joyfully celebrated World Disability Day 2025 on 8th October 2025 at Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Avadi. The event served as a vibrant platform to honour the strength, resilience, and achievements of persons with disabilities, while reinforcing the spirit of inclusivity, equality, and empowerment.

 

The grand celebration was graced by eminent dignitaries including Hon’ble Minister Thiru. S. M. Nasar, District Collector Thiru. M. Pratap, and District Differently Abled Welfare Officer Thiru. S. Srinivasan, whose leadership continues to strengthen government initiatives for the welfare of differently abled persons. The presence of distinguished guests Mr. G. Udayakumar (Mayor of Avadi), Dr. Chandra David, Mr. A. N. Henry Maris,Dr. E. Mary Angeline Santhosam, Mrs. Latha Ranjith Singh, Dr. V. Nagarani, Dr.V.Kirubananth, and Mr. Anbumalar P. Selvaraj added immense value and inspiration to the occasion. Their participation reaffirmed the collective commitment of government bodies, educational institutions, and NGOs toward creating a society that embraces diversity and empowers every individual

 

More than 800 students from 21 special schools across the district actively participated in the event, along with NGO representatives, trustees, educators, and parents. The campus came alive with energy and enthusiasm as the participants competed in 19 exciting sports and cultural events, showcasing their incredible abilities, determination, and team spirit. Each event reflected the joy of participation and the belief that disability is not a limitation but a different way of achieving excellence

 

Winners were honoured with trophies, certificates, and special prizes, recognizing their talent and perseverance. The smiles, applause, and cheers that filled the venue were a testament to the event’s success in nurturing confidence and celebrating every achievement, big or small.

 

The World Disability Day 2025 celebration at Nazareth College stood as a powerful reminder of our shared duty to build a barrier-free and inclusive world one that celebrates diversity, upholds dignity, and provides equal opportunities for all. Through such collaborative efforts, Tamil Nadu continues to pave the way toward a society of compassion, empowerment, and social justice, where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive with pride and purpose
