HOPE IN ACTION: LIONS CLUB OF ORAGADAM CITY INSTALLS NEW LEADERS AND LAUNCHES A HISTORIC WELFARE DRIVE BENEFITING 350 LIVES

On 15th July 2025, a landmark event took place at SRI VARI A/C Party Hall, Kallikuppam, Ambattur, as the Lions Club of Oragadam City (Club No. 137790) held its Installation of New Office Bearers and Induction of New Members under the dynamic leadership of Lion Dr. V. Nagarani, a renowned social worker, Founder of Hope Public Charitable Trust, and now proudly serving as the President of the Club.

This occasion was particularly special, as it marked the first time Dr. V. Nagarani initiated a large-scale community welfare event of this magnitude through the Lions platform—setting a new benchmark in service and solidarity. The event created a major impact in the community, reaching 350 beneficiaries, and establishing itself as a powerful highlight and milestone in the history of Lions Club of Oragadam City.

The installation ceremony was dignified and vibrant, with Lion R. Hema Latha assuming charge as Secretary and Lion Pramila Mathan as Treasurer. The office bearers were formally installed by Lion R. Sridharan MJF, PMCS and Past District Governor, and the induction of new members was led by Lion R. Narasimhan PMJF, First Vice District Governor. The event was honored by Lion P. Jeyakodi PMJF, Second vice District Governor, and Mr. Samsu Meera, Managing Director of Kaveri Textiles, Ambattur, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

In an inspiring move, the club unveiled a comprehensive welfare initiative worth Rs.3,86,150, reaching out to vulnerable families, special homes, frontline workers, caregivers, and underprivileged students. Key highlights of this initiative include:

  • 130 Welfare Kits distributed to underprivileged families, worth Rs. 1,36,500, containing essential provisions such as rice, health mix, and bedsheets.
  • 7 gas stoves donated by Mrs. Sridevi, Proprietor, Ganesha Gas Agency, Mogappair, worth Rs. 15,400.
  • Danirasa Foundation’s contribution of 20 sarees and 20 nighties valued at Rs. 12,000.
  • Distribution of 15 tailoring kits (Rs. 950 each) to empower women from tribal communities.
  • Clothes, school bags, socks, sanitary pads, and daily essentials worth Rs. 30,000 handed over to DCP Ln. Rosy Mam.
  • Support to Sairam Old Age Home, Thirumullaivoyal, with nightwear and rice (Rs. 13,700).
  • Contributions to Shelter for Women with Psychosocial Needs, Egmore, including a tailoring machine, sanitary napkins, and gas stove worth Rs. 12,000.
  • New dresses for 28 girls from Aram MR Girls Home, Redhills, and Rs. 10,000 for their educational support.
  • Empowerment support in Selvi Lenin Nagar, including rice bags, fan, gas stove, and cement worth Rs. 10,500.
  • Gifts to 11 caregivers from Hope Trust, including sarees and provision kits (Rs. 22,000).
  • Educational aid worth Rs. 1,10,000 to five students, including a generous Rs. 70,000 donation from Mrs. Devatha, former HM and Lions Club member.
  • A Rs. 10,000 sports kit fund was handed over to Ln. Preetha to encourage youth participation in sports.

As a symbolic and spiritual start, the lighting of the lamp was carried out by five committed frontline workers—Sathyavani, Radha, Yasotha, Sundari, and Seetha—honoring their relentless efforts in serving vulnerable populations.

Ln. A. Mathan, Club Administrator and DCP for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanthi, along with several distinguished Lions dignitaries, joined in support, marking their presence and appreciation for this historic initiative. The evening’s schedule included fellowship at 6:00 p.m., an official meeting at 6:30 p.m., and dinner at 8:00 p.m., bringing together hearts that beat for service.

This event set a new precedent for Lions Club of Oragadam City—not only as a leadership transition ceremony but as a movement of kindness, inclusion, and dignity. Dr. V. Nagarani’s vision and leadership, brought to life through meticulous planning and collaboration, made this first-of-its-kind initiative a massive success and a proud moment for the entire community.

With her belief in “Pride in Mankind Service,” Dr. V. Nagarani continues to inspire others through impactful action, proving that leadership is best measured by how many lives one touches—and on this day, 350 lives were touched with care, compassion, and hope.
